About Faridaat

Since 1990, Faridaat Salukis has existed as a small scale "hobby" kennel producing quality not quantity. Our efforts are focussed on producing distinguished, moderate hounds to preserve the unique qualities and original function of the Saluki. We are of the opinion that preserving something as ancient and specialized as the Saluki is of primary importance so to that end you will not find us breeding in exaggerated show ring movement, type or excessive pizazz and feathering. We strive for Salukis that exhibit field performance, moderate & functional conformation and at the top of our priorities are excellent health, and outgoing, people-loving temperaments. Breeding for loving companions is without a doubt one of the most important factors in our program, because every puppy must first and foremost be a delightful family member! We pride ourselves on our home-raised, Canadian-bred Salukis!

Faridaat's location is geographically remote, therefore our current participation in ring and field is somewhat limited, but in a few short years we have produced several worthy Conformation Champions, who are only just embarking on their coursing careers, and will continue to do so. Our current Salukis are bred on primarily Old English lineage with some Dutch thrown in and we intend to incorporate some Country of Origin (COO) bloodlines in the future. About Us

We are Shelley & Brent Work. We live in Vanderhoof, BC, Canada, but we are originally from the prairies of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We have three teenaged children, and we are both in our late-30's. Brent is a contract Courier and I am currently a legal secretary.

Our property, RavenWood Acres, consists of 8 acres of partially forested land. We have other hobbies aside from Salukis. We both enjoy music, gardening and photography. I sing and play guitar, and Brent plays Bass. I also enjoy performing in the Vanderhoof Community Theatre Society. I'm into fitness (weight training and cardio, racquetball) and recently purchased my first horse(s), making complete a lifelong dream! Brent collects and trades hockey cards under the name of Face Off Collectibles.

Kennel History Overview

Nyssa - photo by Robbie Pattison, one of our puppies! We bought our first 2 Salukis in 1990 from Roberta Pattison of Iroki Salukis. Our first Salukis were purchased as companions. At the time we weren't interested in showing but coursing did pique our interest. Faridaat Salukis has evolved into a small scale, 'quality versus quantity' kennel. As all good students, we still have much to learn about this magnificent breed. Our first 2 litters were co-bred with Iroki. Both litters (1998 & 2000) were by Iroki Oberon x Iroki Pelageya.

All our Salukis are home-raised with our family in the house, not in a kennel. We believe loving your Saluki as part of the family is the most important requirement in a good Saluki home. Of course we like it if they are shown and/or coursed as well but we don't insist on all of our puppies going to show homes. We do insist that buyers of our puppies stay in contact with us so that we may offer any advice, help or support necessary to help them in raising their Saluki.
