About Us

Since 1990, Faridaat Salukis has existed as a small scale “hobby” kennel producing quality, not quantity. Our BREEDING PROGRAM focusses on preserving the unique qualities and original function of the Saluki. We do not breed for exaggerated type or movement or specific coat colours. We strive for moderate Salukis that perform well in the field, have excellent health, and possess outgoing, people-loving temperaments.  Breeding for loving companions is one of the most important aspects of our program because every puppy must be a delightful family member! We pride ourselves on our home-raised, Canadian-bred Salukis!

In 1990 …
We bought our first 2 Salukis as companions from Roberta Pattison of Iroki Salukis. At the time we weren’t interested in showing, but coursing definitely piqued our interest and we pursued it with passion until moving to an isolated community in northern BC in 1992.  Despite our lack of proximity to show/coursing venues we were still very passionate about the breed and in 1998 & 2000 we co-bred our first 2 litters with Iroki.

Foundation
Our first two litters were founded primarily on Old English lines imported to Canada in the 70s and combined with the Dutch Samoems line.  We are still breeding along these lines today, but we have also begun to incorporate some Country of Origin (COO) bloodlines to increase genetic diversity. It is unique to find a breed that can draw on the very ancestral lines it originated from so we intend to take full advantage of it!

As all good students, we still have much to learn about this magnificent breed.

Behind the name
We are Shelley & Brent Work. We live in Vanderhoof, BC, Canada, but we are originally from the prairies of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We have three wonderful children and a granddaughter. Brent is a courier and I am a secretary/helpdesk at a public distance learning school. Our property, RavenWood Acres, consists of 8 acres of partially forested land.

We have other hobbies aside from Salukis. We both enjoy music, gardening and photography. I sing and play guitar, and Brent plays Bass. I also enjoy performing in the Vanderhoof Community Theatre Society. I’ve just begun belly dancing and I love to work with and ride my horses! Brent collects watches and trades hockey cards under the name of Face Off Collectibles.
